Equipment

  • 1 Waffle cone maker or pizzelle iron
  • 1 Cone roller (optional)
  • 1 mixing bowl
  • (1) Whisk
  • 1 measuring cup
  • 1 Measuring spoons
  • 1 Spatula or tongs
  • (1) Cooling rack

Ingredients

  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • ½ cup Granulated sugar
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 4 tbsp Butter melted
  • ¼ cup Milk
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp Salt

Optional (for flavor variations):

  • 2 tbsp Cocoa powder for chocolate cones
  • ½ tsp Cinnamon for spiced cones
  • ½ tsp Zest of lemon or orange for citrus cones

Instructions

Prepare the Batter:

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until the mixture becomes light and frothy. Add the melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract, and whisk again until smooth. Gradually sift in the flour and salt, stirring continuously until the batter is thick but pourable.

Preheat Your Waffle Cone Maker:

  • Preheat your waffle cone maker or pizzelle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions. If using a pan, heat it over low-medium heat and lightly grease the surface with butter or non-stick spray.

Cook the Cones:

  • Spoon about 2 tablespoons of batter onto the center of the preheated waffle maker and close the lid. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes or until golden brown. If using a pan, spread the batter into a thin circle and cook for the same amount of time, flipping to ensure even cooking.

Shape the Cones:

  • Once the waffles are golden and crisp, quickly remove them with a spatula or tongs and immediately roll them into a cone shape using a cone roller or your hands. Hold the shape for a few seconds to allow it to set. Place the finished cone on a cooling rack to cool completely.

Serve and Enjoy:

  • Fill your homemade waffle cones with ice cream, whipped cream, or any toppings of your choice. Enjoy immediately or store for later.

Notes

  • Consistency of the batter: If your batter seems too runny, add a small amount of flour to thicken it. If it’s too thick, add a little extra milk to thin it out. The perfect batter should pour easily but still have some body.
  • Shaping the cones: Work quickly while the waffles are still warm and soft. If they harden too much before you roll them, you can reheat them for a few seconds to soften them up again.
  • Storing: To keep the cones crisp, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3-4 days. If you want to freeze them, wrap each cone individually and place them in a zip-top bag. When ready to eat, let them thaw at room temperature for a few minutes.
  • Customization: Feel free to experiment with different flavor variations by adding cocoa powder for chocolate cones, cinnamon for a spiced twist, or citrus zest for a refreshing flavor.
