Equipment

  • 1 Cocktail Shaker (Standard size)
  • 1 Margarita Glass (or rocks glass, depending on preference)
  • 1 Shallow Dish (for rimming the glass with salt)
  • 1 Jigger (for measuring ingredients)
  • 1 Strainer (optional, to strain the drink)
  • 1 Lime Squeezer (optional, for extracting fresh lime juice)

Ingredients

  • 2 oz 60 mL Tequila (preferably Blanco or Silver)
  • 1 oz 30 mL Triple Sec (or Orange Liqueur)
  • 1 oz 30 mL Fresh Lime Juice (about 1 lime)
  • 1 oz 30 mL Sweet & Sour Mix
  • Ice for shaking and serving
  • Salt optional, for rimming the glass
  • Lime Wedge for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Glass:

  • If you want a salted rim, rub a lime wedge around the rim of your glass. Then dip the rim into a shallow dish of salt. Set aside.

Mix the Ingredients:

  • In a cocktail shaker, combine the tequila, triple sec, fresh lime juice, and sweet & sour mix. Fill the shaker halfway with ice.

Shake the Margarita:

  • Secure the lid and shake the ingredients vigorously for about 15 seconds to chill and mix them.

Pour the Drink:

  • Strain the mixture into the prepared glass filled with ice (if using rocks) or blend the ingredients with ice for a frozen margarita.

Garnish:

  • Add a lime wedge for garnish. Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade Olive Garden Margarita!

Notes

  • For a Frozen Margarita: Simply blend the ingredients with ice until you reach a slushy consistency. You may need to adjust the ice to your liking.
  • Adjust the Sweetness: If you prefer a sweeter margarita, add a little more sweet & sour mix. You can also experiment with using agave syrup as a natural sweetener.
  • Tequila Selection: Blanco tequila is the most commonly used for margaritas due to its clean flavor, but feel free to use reposado or añejo tequila for a richer taste.
  • Salt Rim: You can use regular salt or experiment with a flavored salt (like chili-lime salt) to add an extra twist to your drink.
  • Make it Ahead: If you're making margaritas for a party, you can mix all the ingredients (minus the ice) ahead of time and store them in the fridge. Just add ice and shake when ready to serve.
