Equipment

  • 1 frying pan (for frying the donuts)
  • 1 slotted spoon (for removing donuts from oil)
  • 1 kitchen thermometer (optional, to check oil temperature)
  • 1 rolling pin (for flattening dough, if necessary)
  • 1 shallow bowl (for cinnamon-sugar coating)
  • 1 plate (for draining excess oil)
  • 1 paper towel (to absorb oil)

Ingredients

  • 1 can 16.3 oz biscuit dough (store-bought)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • Optional: 2 tbsp powdered sugar for dusting
  • Optional: 2 tbsp honey or chocolate sauce for dipping

Instructions

Prepare the Dough:

  • Open the can of biscuit dough and separate the biscuits.
Flatten each biscuit with a rolling pin to about 1/2 inch thick.
Optionally, cut out the center of each biscuit to create a classic donut shape using a round cutter.

Heat the Oil:

  • In a frying pan or deep fryer, heat oil to about 350°F (175°C).
Use a kitchen thermometer or test the oil with a small piece of dough to check if it’s ready.

Fry the Donuts:

  • Carefully place the dough pieces into the hot oil, frying a few at a time.
Fry each donut for about 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
Remove the donuts with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Coat with Cinnamon-Sugar:

  • In a shallow bowl, combine the sugar and cinnamon.
While the donuts are still warm, dip them into the cinnamon-sugar mixture, ensuring they are coated evenly.

Optional Toppings:

  • If desired, dust the donuts with powdered sugar for an extra touch.
You can also serve them with warm honey or chocolate sauce for dipping.

Serve:

  • Serve the donuts warm, paired with your favorite beverage like coffee or hot chocolate. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Don’t Overcrowd the Pan: Fry the donuts in batches to ensure they cook evenly and don’t become greasy.
  • Customize Your Coating: You can experiment with different toppings or coatings. For a chocolate twist, try rolling the donuts in cocoa powder or using a drizzle of melted chocolate.
  • Serving Suggestions: These donuts are perfect when served with a side of coffee, milk, or even a dessert wine for a more festive touch.
  • Storage: These donuts are best served fresh, but you can store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days at room temperature. To reheat, place them in the oven for a few minutes to restore their crispness.
