Equipment

  • 1 medium saucepan
  • 1 Heatproof bowl (for melting chocolate)
  • 1 Spoon or whisk (for stirring)
  • 1 Measuring cup (for cream)
  • 1 Microwave-safe bowl (optional for melting chocolate in the microwave)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup 175g Semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup 120ml Heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons 28g Unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon 5ml Vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon 12g Sugar (optional, for added sweetness)

Instructions

Melt the chocolate:

  • Place the semi-sweet chocolate chips into a heatproof bowl.
Melt using a double boiler (place the bowl over a pot of simmering water) or in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until completely melted and smooth.

Heat the cream and butter:

  • In a saucepan, combine the heavy cream and butter.
Heat over medium heat until the butter is melted and the cream is warmed, but not boiling.

Combine chocolate and cream mixture:

  • Slowly pour the warmed cream and butter mixture into the melted chocolate, stirring gently to combine.
The sauce should become smooth and glossy.

Add vanilla and salt:

  • Stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt to enhance the flavor.

Serve or store:

  • The chocolate sauce is ready to serve immediately, or you can let it cool slightly for a thicker consistency.
Drizzle over your favorite desserts and enjoy!

Notes

  • Adjust sweetness: If you prefer a sweeter sauce, feel free to increase the amount of sugar or use milk chocolate instead of semi-sweet.
  • Make it dairy-free: Use coconut cream instead of heavy cream and vegan butter to make the sauce dairy-free.
  • Storage: The sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week. Reheat gently before using.
  • Freezing: To store for longer, freeze the sauce in an ice cube tray for easy portions. Thaw overnight in the fridge and reheat.
