Instructions
Prepare the Ice Cream Base:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, and granulated sugar until the sugar dissolves completely. Add the vanilla extract and mint extract. If desired, add a few drops of green food coloring and mix until the color is evenly distributed.
Crush the Oreos:
Place the Oreos in a food processor or zip-top bag and crush them into small and large chunks, ensuring a mix of textures in the ice cream.
Churn the Ice Cream:
Pour the mixture into your ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This usually takes about 20-25 minutes. The ice cream should be thickened to a soft-serve consistency.
Fold in the Oreos:
In the last 2-3 minutes of churning, add the crushed Oreos to the ice cream maker. Allow the cookies to mix evenly into the ice cream.
Freeze the Ice Cream:
Once the ice cream is ready, transfer it into an airtight freezer container. Smooth the top with a spatula and freeze for at least 4 hours or overnight to fully set and firm up.
Serve and Enjoy:
Scoop the ice cream into bowls or cones and enjoy this creamy, minty treat!
Notes
Storage: Store any leftover ice cream in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 2 weeks. If stored for longer, the ice cream may develop ice crystals and lose its smooth texture.
No Ice Cream Maker?: You can still make this ice cream without a machine. Simply pour the mixture into a shallow dish and freeze, stirring every 30 minutes to break up any ice crystals, until it reaches a firm consistency (this will take about 4-6 hours).
Customization: If you love more chocolate in your ice cream, add mini chocolate chips along with the Oreos, or swirl in some chocolate fudge or caramel sauce.
Vegan Version: For a dairy-free version, substitute coconut milk and coconut cream for the dairy, and use a vegan-friendly sweetener.
