Equipment

  • Ice cream maker - For churning the ice cream base
  • Large Mixing Bowl – for mixing the cream, milk, and sugar.
  • Whisk – to blend ingredients smoothly.
  • Spatula – for folding in crushed Oreos and transferring the ice cream.
  • Airtight Freezer Container – to store the ice cream in the freezer.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups 480 ml – Heavy Cream
  • 1 cup 240 ml – Whole Milk
  • 3/4 cup 150 g – Granulated Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon 5 ml – Vanilla Extract
  • 1 teaspoon 5 ml – Mint Extract
  • 10-12 Oreos around 1 1/2 cups – Oreo Cookies, crushed into chunks
  • Optional – Green Food Coloring a few drops

Instructions

Prepare the Ice Cream Base:

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, and granulated sugar until the sugar dissolves completely.
Add the vanilla extract and mint extract. If desired, add a few drops of green food coloring and mix until the color is evenly distributed.

Crush the Oreos:

  • Place the Oreos in a food processor or zip-top bag and crush them into small and large chunks, ensuring a mix of textures in the ice cream.

Churn the Ice Cream:

  • Pour the mixture into your i
ce cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This usually takes about 20-25 minutes. The ice cream should be thickened to a soft-serve consistency.

Fold in the Oreos:

  • In the last 2-3 minutes of churning, add the crushed Oreos to the ice cream maker.
Allow the cookies to mix evenly into the ice cream.

Freeze the Ice Cream:

  • Once the ice cream is ready, transfer it into an airtight freezer container.
Smooth the top with a spatula and freeze for at least 4 hours or overnight to fully set and firm up.

Serve and Enjoy:

  • Scoop the ice cream into bowls or cones and enjoy this creamy, minty treat!

Notes

  • Storage: Store any leftover ice cream in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 2 weeks. If stored for longer, the ice cream may develop ice crystals and lose its smooth texture.
  • No Ice Cream Maker?: You can still make this ice cream without a machine. Simply pour the mixture into a shallow dish and freeze, stirring every 30 minutes to break up any ice crystals, until it reaches a firm consistency (this will take about 4-6 hours).
  • Customization: If you love more chocolate in your ice cream, add mini chocolate chips along with the Oreos, or swirl in some chocolate fudge or caramel sauce.
  • Vegan Version: For a dairy-free version, substitute coconut milk and coconut cream for the dairy, and use a vegan-friendly sweetener.
