Ice Cream Layers
- 1 pint cherry ice cream
- 1 pint pistachio ice cream
- 1 pint chocolate or vanilla ice cream
Mix-ins
- ½ cup chopped maraschino cherries
- ½ cup chopped pistachios
- ½ cup dark chocolate shavings or chunks
- ¼ cup candied fruit optional
Flavor Enhancements
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- 1 tablespoon rum or amaretto optional
Step 1: Prepare the Mix-ins
Chop the maraschino cherries, pistachios, and dark chocolate into small, even pieces.
If using candied fruit, chop it finely for better texture.
Step 2: Soften the Ice Cream
Step 3: Layer the Ice Cream
Line a loaf pan with plastic wrap or parchment paper.
Spread cherry ice cream as the bottom layer and sprinkle with chopped cherries. Smooth it out with a spatula.
Spread pistachio ice cream as the second layer, mixing in the chopped pistachios.
Finish with chocolate or vanilla ice cream, mixing in dark chocolate shavings.
Step 4: Freeze the Spumoni
Cover the loaf pan with plastic wrap and gently press down to remove air pockets.
Freeze for 4–6 hours, or until completely set.
- Flavor Variations: Swap chocolate ice cream for vanilla or use strawberry instead of cherry for a unique twist.
- Nut-Free Option: Omit pistachios or replace them with chocolate chips.
- Storage Tip: Wrap tightly and store in an airtight container to prevent freezer burn. Best enjoyed within one to two weeks.
