Equipment

  • Ice Cream Maker (optional): 1 unit
  • Medium Bowl – 1 unit
  • Whisk: 1 unit
  • Measuring cups and spoons (1 set)
  • Spatula: 1 unit
  • Shallow Freezer-Safe Container – 1 unit
  • Airtight Storage Container: 1 unit

Ingredients

  • 2 cups 500g Greek Yogurt (Full-fat or low-fat)
  • 1/2 cup 120ml Milk (whole, skim, or dairy-free milk like almond milk)
  • 1/4 cup 60g Sweetener (sugar, honey, maple syrup, or a sugar substitute)
  • 1 tsp 5ml Vanilla Extract (or your preferred flavor extract)
  • Optional Add-ins such as fresh fruit, chocolate chips, or crushed cookies

Instructions

Prepare the Yogurt Base:

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the Greek yogurt, milk, sweetener, and vanilla extract until smooth. If adding fruit, blend it into a puree and mix it into the yogurt base for an extra fruity flavor. Taste and adjust sweetness as desired.

Chill the Mixture:

  • Cover the yogurt mixture and chill it in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour. This ensures it’s cold enough to churn to the perfect consistency.

Churn the Mixture:

  • If you have an ice cream maker, pour the chilled mixture into the machine and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions (usually about 20-30 minutes). The mixture should thicken to a soft-serve texture.
  • If you don't have an ice cream maker, pour the mixture into a shallow container and place it in the freezer. Every 30 minutes, scrape the mixture with a fork to break up any ice crystals until it reaches a smooth consistency (this can take 2-3 hours).

Freeze the Frozen Yogurt:

  • Once your frozen yogurt reaches a soft-serve consistency, transfer it to an airtight container and freeze for 3-4 hours or until it firms up to your liking.

Serve and Enjoy:

  • Allow the frozen yogurt to sit out for a few minutes before serving for easier scooping. Top with your favorite toppings, such as fresh fruit, granola, or chocolate chips, and enjoy!

Notes

  • Customizing Sweeteners: If you're looking for a sugar-free or low-sugar option, try using stevia, monk fruit, or another low-glycemic sweetener. Keep in mind that some sweeteners may alter the texture slightly.
  • Texture Tip: For extra creaminess, consider adding a tablespoon of heavy cream to the base mixture before churning.
  • Flavor Ideas: This base recipe is extremely versatile. Add cocoa powder for a chocolatey flavor, or try infusing your yogurt with matcha or cinnamon for a unique twist.
  • Toppings: Add crunchy toppings like granola, crushed cookies, or chocolate chips for texture, or go the fruit route with berries, mango, or banana slices.
  • Storage: Store your homemade frozen yogurt in an airtight container in the freezer. If it becomes too hard after storage, let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes before serving to soften.
