Equipment

  • 1 (9x5-inch) loaf pan
  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • (1) Whisk
  • 1 spatula
  • 1 measuring cup and spoons
  • 1 spoon or wooden spoon
  • 1 Toothpick (for testing doneness)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted

Optional Add-ins:

  • 1 tablespoon honey for added sweetness
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk for a tangier flavor

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease or line a 9x5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.

Combine dry ingredients:

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.

Add wet ingredients:

  • Pour in the milk and melted butter. If using honey or buttermilk, add them here as well.
Stir gently with a spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix—lumps are perfectly fine.

Transfer to the pan:

  • Pour the dough into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

Bake:

  • Place the pan in the oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool:

  • Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 5 minutes.
Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Serve:

  • Slice the bread and serve as a side to your favorite meal or enjoy it with butter or honey.

Notes

  • Storage: Leftover bread can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2-3 days at room temperature. For longer storage, freeze the bread, and reheat it in the oven for the best texture.
  • Variations: Try adding shredded cheddar, garlic butter, or cinnamon sugar to create different flavors.
  • Don’t Overmix: To keep the bread light and fluffy, avoid overmixing the dough—this could make it dense.
  • Oven Times Vary: Start checking the bread around 25 minutes, as oven temperatures can vary. The bread is done when the top is golden, and a toothpick comes out clean.
